There are plenty of (miracle) remedies for hereditary hair loss, but the success rate of most of the expensive preparations is modest. So why not dare to go bald? The SRF health program "Puls" wanted to get to the bottom of this remarkable question and visited Kopfrausch, among others, to find out how people affected by alopecia areata deal with it.
Bald patches suddenly appear on one or more parts of the scalp. They grow larger and can, in some cases, lead to complete hairlessness. The disease, especially at the beginning, is often associated with great fear. Complete hair loss is often traumatic, especially for women. Although circular hair loss is not dangerous and is not contagious, it often has an extremely stressful effect on the psyche of those affected.
How should one deal with this?
Women without hair – fighting a taboo
35-year-old Mirjam Kalbermatten knows from her own experience how strangely women with bald heads are still viewed. Suffering from alopecia areata, she was elected to the Burgdorf city council despite having a bald head and is working with other affected women to promote greater acceptance of bald heads.
In addition to Ms. Kalbermatten, Bianca Lüssi, surgical assistant and model at Kopfrausch, and the managing director of Kopfrausch Romina Rausch are guests on the show.
The three strong women report authentically and honestly about their own experiences and also show their intimate side in the interview.
How they coped with their illness and what they think about it will be discussed in the highly interesting Puls broadcast on May 9, 2022.
